Top 10 Reasons To Fire McDermott

1.        2020 AFC Championship Game Vs. Chiefs: McDermott elects to kick FG 3 times on 4th down and 3 or less.

McDermott kicks 3 FGs on 4th and short in KC Territory. The worst decision was when the Bills were trailing by 12 and faced 4th and 3 on the KC 8-yard Line. With 5:52 left in the 3rd Quarter, McDermott decided to cut the deficit to 9! Still a 2-score game instead of going for it on 4th and 3. It took the Chiefs just 5 Plays to score a TD and extend their lead to 31-15. KC would win 38-24 and head to the Super Bowl.

2.        McDermott’s Defense cannot ever stop KC in the Playoffs, even when they were having a down year.
In 2024, Kansas City never scored more than 30 points in a single game. EXCEPT for when they played McDermott’s Defense in the AFC Championship Game. KC won 32-29. KC was shut down in the Super Bowl by Philly and only scored garbage points to keep it close.

3.        13 seconds Game.
One of the Buffalo Bills' best shots at winning a Super Bowl, the Bills score 36 points and take the lead by 3 with 13 seconds left. McDermott’s defense cannot contain KC and instead plays “not to lose” Defense. KC puts together a 19-yard pass on the first play, and 25 25-yard pass on the next play to gain FG range. Butker easily makes a 49-yarder with room to spare, and the game proceeds into OT, where McDermott’s Defense can’t even hold KC to a FG. KC scores a TD to win the game.

4.        Embarrassment at Home in the 2022 Divisional Game vs. the Bengals. Lost 27-10.
This game wasn’t even competitive, and it was the game Diggs realized he was on his last legs in Buffalo.

5.        Bills have had 4 different Offensive Coordinators and 2 different Defensive Coordinators since McDermott has been the coach.
Everyone blames the OCs (Daboll, Dorsey, and now Brady) when the offense struggles. Because McDermott always has the excuse, he is not an “offensive” Head Coach. It’s time to stop scapegoating coordinators and find a Head Coach who can help on Offense. Imagine having a job where you can blame others because the most important aspect of your success isn’t your specialty.

6.        Horrible game management leads to loss of First Seed in two 2024 games.

-Week 5 vs. Houston – Bills are tied 20-20 with the ball on OWN 3 yard line and 32 seconds remaining. Rather then run the ball and force Houston to call Timeouts, the Bills throw 3 straight incompletions. Texans get the ball back and Kick FG to win.

-Week 14 vs. La Rams- Bills are down 2 scores, and have 1st and Goal from 1 yard line with 1:02 remaining. Bills run QB sneak and is stopped. McDermott calls Timeout essentially salting the game away for LA. The Bills eventually score a TD but once the Rams recover the onside kick the game is Over. Tom Brady is quoted as saying “To me, you take three shots throwing it. Don’t use a timeout and then you can kick it deep.. and still get the ball back with good time”

7.        0-4 Record against Andy Reid and KC in the Playoffs.
The regular season record in meaningless, the goal is to win Superbowls and Andy Reid owns Sean McDermott.

8.        Could never keep Stefan Diggs happy.
Diggs was a Bills All Time Great WR. He was one of the reasons for the team’s success. Instead, he was let go in favor of cheaper options. McDermott could never keep Allen-Diggs together and deserves blame. All Diggs has done since leaving the Bills is solidify the Patriots' WRs as a playoff contender.

9.        29% Challenge Record. McDermott is 11/38 all time in Coaches Challenges.
What is more concerning is he has only challenged 38 times in 9 years of Coaching. That’s only 4 challenges per year. McDermott has been too conservative on multiple occasions not challenging a game changing play. Most recently in 2025: Bills at Miami, McDermott threw the challenge flag too late on what was an obvious drop on 3rd Down. It allows Dolphins to keep the ball and continue to drive. There are too many examples to cite of similar situations.

10.  Horrible Losses to Bad Teams every year.
In 2025, Bills lost to 3-7 Falcons and 2-7 Dolphins
